Ongoing Bible Classes are offered each Sunday morning. Each class provides the setting for participants to grow in their relationship to God and others. Please note the times when classes are offered.
AGAPE (Adults Growing and Preparing for Eternity)/COPS (Couples of Promise) - Meets at 9:30 a.m. Teacher: Chris Thuringer In the fall of 2010, AGAPE & COPS combined classes. AGAPE is primarily composed of adults in their thirties and forties. The COPS class began in the spring of 2005 for young adult couples (dating, engaged and married) although we welcome all who will join us. Since its beginning, the class has covered a variety of biblical topics and studies including the book of James, the Beatitudes, John Ortberg's Everybody's Normal Till You Get to Know Them, Rick Warren's 40 Days of Community study, and Esther. The class is a fun and lively group that enjoys studying scripture and socializing with others. Chris Thuringer leads and teaches the class.
CIA (Christians in Action) - Meets at 10:45 a.m. Teacher: Phil Flanary The Christians in Action (CIA) Adult Bible Class originated in January 1970 and is a mixture of couples and singles that hunger for the Word of God and spend time on Sunday morning in open discussion of the Bible and topical studies. We are a group of believers who have been enriched by a diversity of life experiences and seek Biblical applications to our lives. We have a social network that provides support, prayer, and accountability.
Encouragers - Meets at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Teachers: Marie Eades, Kim Woodrum The Encouragers Class was organized in February 1981. Marie Eades, the original teacher, continues to teach along with Kim Woodrum. The class began as a single, single-again class. The name was changed to the Berean Class when some members married and did not want to leave the class. Upon merging with another class, the name Encouragers class was selected. The Encouragers are a very diverse group. Class members study a book of the Bible or a topical study. Class socials are quarterly. The Encouragers support the Grundy Mountain Mission School, Compassion International, and Pioneer Bible Translators.
Merry Messengers - Meets at 10:45 a.m. Teacher: Gene Warner The Merry Messengers class is a very caring and loving group of members 50 years of age and older. The love they have for one another is very special. The class was started 51 years ago by a group of young married couples who chose the name "Merry Mates." A few years ago, the name of the class was changed to reflect the current members of the class. They encourage and welcome those who are single and married for fellowship. The teacher for several years has been Gene Warner, a former Minister of the Gospel. Every month a social event is scheduled consisting of food, fun, and fellowship.
Pairs & Spares - Meets at 10:45 a.m. Teacher: Bill Woodward The Pairs & Spares class is made up of senior citizens. As the name denotes there are married couples as well as singles. The class has an active group of officers who plan programs, including missionary and social activities on a year round basis. The class uses the International Sunday School Lesson format but welcomes special sessions such as reports by missionaries representing this church. The group also supports the church's activities such as taking its turn at serving God's Pantry, the communion trays, Wednesday night dinners, etc.
PRAISE (People Raising Awareness in Service & Evangelism) - Meets at 9:30 a.m. Teacher: Wade Lawson The PRAISE class began February 2007. It is composed of adult couples and singles in their forties and fifties. Our emphasis is on biblical teaching, fellowship and evangelism. We would love for you to join our group as we seek to deepen our relationship with God and others. We meet on the fourth floor in room 301.
SIS (Sisters in Spirit) - Meets at 10:45 a.m. Teachers: Mary Wells The SIS class began in June of 1999 to reach ladies not involved in a Sunday School class ... single, divorced, widowed, or attending without a spouse. Our members range in age from twenty-something to eighty-something. We study topics relevant to women today. We have done Beth Moore studies as well as Lizz Curtis Higgs and others. We seem to prefer a study that challenges us to study during the week (usually from a workbook) in preparation for our Sunday class. About once a month we devote a whole class to prayer needs. The SIS class supports many missions. We sponsor an Ethiopian child through Compassion International. And we give annually to God's Pantry Food Bank and the AA Pregnancy Help Center, as well as other needs as they arise during the year. We also have several socials during the year and an annual retreat to Pigeon Forge, TN. All ladies are invited to join us as we grow in the Lord!
Willing Workers - Meets at 10:45 a.m. Teachers: Buddy Coleman, Steve Kinney, Harold Robinson, Bill Yeary The Willing Workers Sunday School Class has been in existence since 1974. We are the "new 40" catching primarily the first decade of the "boomers". We currently follow the Standard Quarterly. We are a fun loving, caring group that has been together for quite some time. We enjoy fellowships/socials at least once per quarter.
GRACE Bible Class - Meets at 10:45 a.m. in Room 124 on the first floor of the main building, which is directly behind the Worship Center. Teachers: Wayne Collier and Claude Singleton
