Phil Ling Phil began as Senior Minister at Broadway in June 2009. As a church planter, business entrepreneur and a fourth generation ministry leader, Phil provides energetic leadership and strategic ministry direction to Broadway. Before coming to Broadway Phil successfully launched two dynamic ministries over a twenty-year span. He served as founding pastor of Northshore Christian Church, (WA) and founder of Northshore Christian Academy. Under his leadership he church grew to nearly 3,000 in weekly attendance and the school became one of the largest primary educational institutions in the Pacific Northwest. In recent years Phil served as Vice President of Development of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Prior to joining the Executive leadership of BGEA, Phil served as Executive Vice President of INJOY Stewardship Services. Phil is a frequent conference speaker, and provides stewardship and leadership coaching and resources for church leaders through www.TheLingGroup.com. Phil is married to his wife of 30 years, Georgia Curtis Ling, who is a bestselling author, free-lance writer, speaker and Creative Arts consultant. Their son, Philip, is a sophomore at Milligan College. He is a gifted award winning artist, photographer and talented musician and vocalist. They call home, Cabin Ridge, a log home on their farm.
Craig Yates Craig was born and raised in Portsmouth, Ohio. For his Biblical education he attended Kentucky Christian College from 1985-1989 and played basketball for three years there, being a member of the 1988 National Championship squad. Craig began his Ministry in Wheelersburg, Ohio where he was a Youth Minister. From there, he would return to his home church, Sciotoville Christian in Sciotoville, Ohio where to serve as both the Youth and Associate Minister, which he did for nine years.Craig and his family relocated to Lexington in 1996 where he had taken Senior Adults Ministry position at Southland Christian Church. Following that he took a position at Jessamine Christian as an Associate Minister in 2001 and then accepted that same job here Broadway, where he has been since 2004. I served as a Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach with Lexington Christian High School from 2001-2006. Craigs family includes: wife, Cathy, and daughters, Kayla and Anne. In his free time, Craig enjoys: basketball, tennis, hiking, & weightlifting.
Tim Cooper Tim graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Christian College and has completed his Masters of Arts in New Testament Preaching from Johnson Bible College. Tim loves to communicate the Gospel to the 21st Century audience. He plays the guitar and enjoys basketball, football, and golf. Tim is a very avid fan of University of Kentucky athletics. Tim is married to his beautiful wife, April. They have three children, Makayla (10), Trace (8) and Lilly Grace (1). They also enjoy the company of a Golden Doodle named Summer.
Andrew Messenger Andrew was born and raised in Lexington (Go Cats!). He graduated from the Lexington Christian Academy in 2005 and in May 2009 will graduate from Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee. For four years he played soccer for Johnson and is an avid sports fan. He was called into ministry during his junior year of High School. He feels so blessed to be a part of the Broadway family and cannot wait to get to know everyone!
Kayla Joy Hurst Kayla attended Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN, and most recently ministered at Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood, IN as a part of their Children’s Ministry staff. She is married to her sweetheart, Jeph, and they have three extraordinary children: McKenzie (6), Brennan (4) and Kloe (1). As a family, they enjoy going on adventures to new places. As a couple, they enjoy concerts, coffee shops and bookstores. On the rare occasions she finds herself without a related companion, she enjoys photography, going out to eat and shopping with or without her wallet.
She is very passionate about communicating the love of God to children and ministering to their families. She is eager to embark on that ministry here in Lexington.
Mark Deakins, Ph.D. BCC is honored to have Dr. Deakins join our staff and ministry. Dr. Deakins professional experiences, while widely varied, have focused primarily on conducting and church music. As a music minister, he has ministered to churches in Indiana and Ohio building large church music programs. Dr. Deakins is the College/University Chair for District 8 Kentucky Music Educators and servers as the host of the District 8 Festival Choruses and the All-State chorus and string auditions for Eastern Kentucky. He has served the past 15 years as the Church Music Consultant for the Berean Christian Store in Canton, OH selecting choral music to be sold, presenting seasonal music workshops, and hosting the Choral Music Celebration which brings together the top Christian music publishers in America.
Since 1989, he has served as a music educator at Kentucky Christian University educating students for Christian leadership and service in church music and other music professions throughout the world. His choral program has a national reputation for excellence. Among the numerous accomplishments in the choral field, the KCU Concert Choir has performed 5 times in Carnegie Hall - twice under the baton of composer and conductor John Rutter and three times under the baton of Deakins. Dr. Deakins was guest conductor in Carnegie Hall with MidAmerica Productions in a performance of Durufle's Requiem in April, 1999 and Vivaldi's Gloria in April, 2002. In April, 2004 the KCU Concert Choir performed at the International Choral Festival (Corhabana) in Havana, Cuba.
Dr. Deakins has prepared the Concert Choir for performances with The West Virginia Symphony, The Louisville Orchestra, The Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, and as back-up vocalists for Judy Collins' Christmas Concert. Dr. Deakins adjudicates vocal solo, ensemble, and chorus competitions for Kentucky Music Educators Association and has guest conducted festival choirs in West Virginia, Kentucky, Colorado and Ohio.
Nate Collier Nate is a lifelong member of Broadway Christian Church. He graduated from Henry Clay High School in 2001 where he participated in Band, Cross Country and Track. From there he went to the University of Kentucky and graduated with a Bachelor's in History in 2004. In the fall of 2005 he enrolled in Cincinnati Bible Seminary (a part of Cincinnati Christian University) and plans to graduate with a Master of Arts in Religion concentrating on Theological Studies in May of 2009. Additionally, Nate enjoys Running, Basketball, and Wikipedia.
Andrew Baker Andrew Baker joined the BCC staff in the summer of 2009 as an intern and is the Director of Technical Support. Andrew comes with a wealth of experience working with Prevention Research Institute as a multimedia intern, Lexington Christian Academy as the Student Technology Assistant, and most recently as the 608 Technical Contact and Editor of “The Southland Hour” for Southland Christian Church. Andrew is a sophomore at Asbury College in Wilmore pursuing a degree in media communications. We are blessed to have a young man of his ability and servant-like spirit as part of our team.
