| The Real America | We may be giving special recognition to our nation and those who have served our nation in the armed forces, but we would be remiss and disrespectful if today, in all this pomp and circumstance, if we failed to acknowledge from whom we received all these blessings. As long as we put God first here in America, we will continue to be the greatest nation on earth. Let us not forget what we have talked about in the weeks leading up to today. We have celebrated fellowship, evangelism, our bible teachers, our fathers, the sanctity of marriage, et al. All of these things are important to our Father in Heaven and abiding by the principles we have given special recognition will help further our cause. However, our cause will not succeed if we are not taking what we have celebrated these past few weeks out into the world. The fate of our country rests upon our obedience to Godly principles. | Biblical Teaching | Corrie ten Boom and her family were Christians, yet they were sent to a Nazi Concentration camp, during World War II for harboring Jews in their home. In her book, The Hiding Place, she writes: “ From morning until lights out, whenever we were not in ranks for roll-call, our Bible was the center of an ever widening circle of help and hope...sometimes I would slip the Bible from its little sack with hands that shook, so mysterious had it become to me. I had believed the Bible always, but reading it now had nothing to do with belief, it was simply a description of the way things were. Of hell and heaven. Of how men act and how God acts . . . the blacker the night around us grew, the brighter and truer and more beautiful burned the Word of God.” | 6/8/2008 | Download |
| X Marks the Spot | Tax Collectors were among the most despised people in Jesus’ time. Yet, Jesus made time for them. Jesus wanted them to one day spend eternity with Him. While Tax Collectors are still among the most despised people in the present day, this passage (found above) is not limited to people within that vocation. Anything can be substituted for a “Tax Collector”. The church needs to be a place where all people are welcomed without judgment. Sometimes we forget that just because we attend church services on a regular basis we are no more righteous than anyone else. It is only the blood of Jesus Christ that makes us righteous. On our own we are still sinners and no better than some of the more “despised” groups within our society. | 6/1/2008 | Download |
| Evangelism | Jesus’ last words to his closest followers were of an evangelistic nature. Evangelism is sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with other people. Most of evangelism is personal, but today we are going to talk about how our church family can be more evangelistic as a whole. Okay, many of us come into church and walk down the same hallways, sit in the same place, and talk to the same people every Sunday. Most of us never leave our comfort zone between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Sunday mornings. Imagine that you are a visitor to this church on Sunday morning. What is going to make you want to return for a second visit? Sure, the music will play a factor, maybe even the preachin’… but, friends, the most important factor will more often than not be how friendly the people are. Visitors are looking for a family to join. Think of it as joining together with your biological family. You don’t go for just the food, but you go for the fellowship. The same principle applies in the church. People wanna go where somebody’s gonna know their name and always be glad they came! | 5/25/2008 | Download |
| Fellowship | Often, when we hear the word “fellowship”, we think of what goes on in the big room, on our lower level, that we call Fellowship Hall. We are going to learn today, that “fellowship” is more than eating a meal at church, more than donuts and coffee before Bible School, or, the greeting time at the beginning of our worship service. “Fellowship” is not about surface relationships, but, literally, means “to share in common”. The church is a place where everybody is important and everybody is welcome. We are a family and we are going to talk about things like that! | 5/18/2008 | Download |

| When We Open Our Mouths | “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.”
That’s a fine idea, words can and do hurt, but they can also lift us up from the dredges of life. The Bible speaks to this truth. By what we say with our mouths can people tell that we are Christians? Are our words and our actions glorifying Our Father in Heaven and His Son. | 5/4/2008 | Download |
| When Opportunity Knocks | We have heard it said that we are "saved by grace through faith." This saving grace is not earned; it is given. Recently, we learned that grace is getting what we don't deserve. None of us deserve heaven, but we are promised to be in God's presence for eternity if we have faith in Him. How is our faith evidenced? Faith is more than just merely belief. As today's passage demonstrates, even the demons believe in God. So, having faith in God constitutes more than acknowledging that God exists. One way to determine exactly what faith is then, would be to ask ourselves, what don't the demons do? Well, it would be fair to assert that the demons do not act on their belief. They do not follow God, they follow the fallen angel, Lucifer, a.k.a. Satan. Therefore, we evidence faith in God when we apply our stated belief in Him to our lives. In short, we act on our belief. James teaches us that our works, what we do on the outside, shows the world who we are on the inside. Not only that, it demonstrates our love for God. Faith in God is love for Him. | 4/27/2008 | Download |
